  1. Hey,
I love your blog! It really captures the spirit of Japan. Your background sounds really interesting – Japanese & Italian. From a young age I was really interested in China and Japan. I actually moved to Beijing in 2008 (and lived there for 4 years), while I was there I fulfilled a lifelong ambition to visit Japan. It was an amazing trip and I was very taken by the country. I hope I can go back one day!

    • Hi! Nice to meet you and thank you for your kind words πŸ™‚ I would love to know your thoughts on how Chinese and Japanese culture differs? Living in Beijing for 4 years must mean you are fluent in the language? Hopefully I will be able to visit China one day πŸ™‚ I will definitely be having a longer read over your blog.

  2. Well, my Chinese is ok. I’m not fluent. I studied the language full time for a bit, but once I started working, I had less time to study. Most of my co-workers would speak to me in English.

Now I’m back home, I’m trying to keep it up. Japan and China are so very different. I found Chinese culture to be quite loud. Everything is about noise (Chinese New Year, my god… two whole weeks of firecrackers, fireworks and car alarms going off) and having lots of people around. Going to the cinema in China is… an experience. The idea of sitting down quietly to watch a film seems to be a very alien concept. As a reserved, introverted Brit, I actually found China a bit much sometimes.

When I went to Japan, I thought it was heavenly. Everything was so tranquil and Zen-like. I hope I get to re-visit Japan one day. I really want to go to Taiwan too, as I hear it’s like a cross between China and Japan.
